Colorado’s Iranian American Community welcomes British court ruling

DENVER, May 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — In an historic judgment on May 7th, 2008, the British Court of Appeal emphatically ruled against the government's request to appeal the November 2007 ruling of the Proscribed Organizations Appeal Commission (POAC) in favor of removing the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK/PMOI) from the UK's terrorist list.

Colorado's Iranian American Community hails this definitive decision which in effect brings to an end the London's appalling policy of appeasement towards the fundamentalist regime in Iran. We call on the British government to immediately end blacklisting of PMOI and lift all the relevant restrictions from the group.

The ruling has been enthusiastically applauded by freedom-loving Iranians all over the world. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the democratic opposition's parliament-in-exile, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), called on the British Government to abide by the Court's ruling and end the injustice and the violation of law. Underlining that the European Union's designation of PMOI had been based solely on the machination of UK's Home Secretary, Mrs. Rajavi said that the European Union must de-list PMOI at once.

As Congressman Tom Tancredo, (R-CO), the Co-chair of the Iran Human Rights and Democracy Caucus, has said in regards to U.S. Department of State blacklisting of PMOI in 1997, PMOI was designated not because it was involved in terrorist activities, but because the Clinton administration sought to curry favor with the Iranian regime. The Department is due to release the result of its 5-year review of PMOI's designation in October 2008. We therefore demand from the State Department to heed the rulings of the British courts as well as the EU Court of First Instance on PMOI's delisting when conducting the review.

Tehran's terrorist campaign in Iraq is taking heavy toll on Iraqis and American soldiers. From Lebanon and Palestine to Afghanistan and Iraq, the mullahs' export of fundamentalism and terrorism is fomenting instability and mayhem. The policy of appeasement has failed miserably. It is time to put an end to it and to support Iranian people in their struggle to unseat the tyrants ruling Iran. The West must untie the hands of the Iranian Resistance and recognize PMOI for its struggle for freedom and democracy in Iran and peace and stability in the region.
