NCRI – The organizing committee for a large Iranian rally scheduled for June 26, which will honor June 20th and the first anniversary of the nationwide uprising in Iran, has called on Iranians to actively participate in the gathering. It will be held in the northern Paris suburb of Taverny.

On June 20, 1981, half a million people in Tehran took to the streets to protest against the reign of repression imposed by the then-newly established clerical regime.

The peaceful rally in support of the main opposition, People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), was brutally suppressed by the regime’s forces, which marked the beginning of mass executions of political prisoners that has taken the lives of some 120,000 of the opponents.

According to the organizing committee, since the previous rally in June 2009 in Villepinte, Iranians and supporters of the Iranian Resistance for freedom have throughout the past year been ceaselessly supporting the nationwide uprising as well as the residents of Camp Ashraf, Iraq. Camp Ashraf is home to close to 3,400 PMOI members in Iraq.

Around the five continents of the world, be it during the summer heat or in the chilly winter months, Iranian exiles have passionately and actively supported Ashraf residents and the activist youths in the camp, calling in unison for the establishment of freedom and liberty in their homeland.

From Rome, Paris and Helsinki to Canadian major cities, Washington, New York and California; from Australian cities to Palestine, Jordan, the Horn of Africa and South Africa, freedom-loving Iranians have in practice symbolized the Iranian nation’s resolve and steadfastness to defeat the ruling dictatorship. They have also expressed support and admiration for the proud residents of Camp Ashraf, known as the strategic center of the struggle, with all their might and heart.

On the brink of the 29th anniversary of June 20 and the first anniversary of the start of the uprisings in Iran, the organizing committee for the 2010 large Iranian gathering calls on all compatriots to actively take part in the rally.
