Anti-fundamentalism conference featured in European and the Arabic media

RamadanNCRI – A conference organized by the Arab-Islamic Committee in defence of Ashraf that condemned Islamic fundamentalism and expressed support for popular sovereignty has received coverage in European and Arab media.

The conference, entitled “Islam against fundamentalism and for popular sovereignty,” took place in Paris at the Louvre museum on Saturday. The keynote speaker was Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which organized the event.

The Kuwaiti daily al-Sayassah wrote, “Mrs. Rajavi said that the Iranian regime exploits Islam to preserve its own rule and commits crimes in the name of religion. That is why, she added, the regime’s constitution, the three branches of government and the military and economic powers have all been dedicated to strengthen the rule of the regime’s supreme leader.”

Al-Sayassah added that various parliamentarian, political and human rights advocates from the Arab world and elsewhere took part in the event. The daily added, “Iranian rulers try to distort the real Islam through their actions and by advocating of the principle of velayat-e faqih or absolute clerical rule. They commit acts such as murder to terrorize the Iranian people. On the opposite end, the Iranian people’s resistance has increased with more uprisings and clashes with the regime in Tehran and various other cities in the country.”

The European news agency also published pictures of the event noting in one of the captions that at the Islam and Democracy conference in Paris, which took place on September 4, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi welcomed her guests.

The Saudi Elaph news agency said in a report, “Mrs. Rajavi believes that the absolute clerical system in Iran is a terrorist regime that issues fatwas for murder and has a hand in committing crimes in Palestine, Iraq, and Lebanon. Mrs. Rajavi added that the resistance by the Iranian people will never rest until the religious fascism in Iran has been unseated. The struggle of the Iranian people will continue until the regime’s overthrow.”
