Al-Arabiya TV: The PMOI rejects regime accusations as “ridiculous”

NCRI – The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has said that, “The Iranian regime’s claims about planning of assassinations of Moussavi and Karoubi [by the PMOI] are ridiculous,” the al-Arabiya TV reported on Monday.

The TV channel added, “The latest development in Iran is Ali Khamenei’s repeated accusations against foreign countries, who he claims, are behind the current crisis in the country.”

“The Jahan website, close to the government, quoted a security source as saying that four teams from the PMOI have entered Iran to assassinate [Mir Hossein] Moussavi and Mehdi Karoubi, a claim that the PMOI has rejected as propaganda and a ridiculous accusation.”

Adnan Salman, an expert on Iranian affairs from London, told al-Arabiya, “The Iranian regime and its security apparatus have developed this conspiracy theory and had already repeated such stories immediately before the election, saying that they also wanted to explode [Mohammad] Khatami’s plane. What is happening in Iran represents a real crisis in the apparent context of an election. However, this is a crisis gripping the entire dictatorship and tyrannical system in Iran led by the Supreme Leader. Khamenei has also focused on foreign plots.”

The expert added, “I am not taking a position in defense of the PMOI. But, it looks very improbable that the PMOI wants to do such a thing. The Iranian Intelligence Minister has not come to the scene and explained to the people and confessions have not been broadcast. Currently this is merely an accusation against the PMOI.”
