Iran: Regime officials express fear of low turnout in sham election

NCRI – The officials of the Iranian regime are frantically urging the population to vote in this week’s election in a desperate bid to prove to western ‘enemies’ that the regime is not unpopular.

Hassan Moslehsaid, Friday Prayer Leader in the city of Borazjan, said it was the Supreme Leader’s wish for a high turn-out at the ballot boxes on Friday.

He said in a speech in Dashtestan: “A cold and dreary election is enemy’s main goal and we mustn’t allow the enemy to reach its goal.

“Today, the enemy is planning to lower people’s participation and we must therefore disappoint that enemy with our high number of votes.”

Bushehr mayor Fereidoon Hasanvand also stressed that going out to vote was ‘as important as fighting for Iran in a war’.

He added: “The most important reason to vote is for the honor and reputation of the government, not for which candidate is eventually selected.

“The law clearly states that all officials must do everything they can to make this election as successful as possible.

“All of us are legally and morally responsible to do everything we can to get people to the ballot boxes.

“People’s full participation will once again prove the power of Islamic Iran to the world and bring about another defeat to the world’s aggression.”

The calls to vote comes after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned election candidates against attacking each other or previous governments and said: “Participating in the election is a religious, moral, ideological and national responsibility and every one must feel accountable.”
