Speaking on the anniversary of the start of the unpopular Iran-Iraq war, Hamedani said the situation of the regime closely resembles that of the end of the war when former mullahs’ Supreme Leader Khomeini was forced to accept a ceasefire, later declaring that the decision felt like drinking a “chalice of poison.” Hamedani said, “There are some in Iran that want to impose a chalice of poison on the Supreme Leader. We saw the effects of this clearly during the period of sedition,” he said in reference to the popular protests last year.
According to the state-run ILNA news agency, Hamedani added that, “History shows that in every period there have been a few people persistently inciting chaos. Today, there are also certainly the kind of people who want to do this now.”
