Students protest across Iran at price rises and poor facilities

NCRI – Student protests are continuing across Iran in anger at rising costs, dilapidated facilities and lack of accommodation.

Students at Sajad University demonstrated on October 22 at a increase in cafeteria food prices from 1,500 to 2,700 Tomans, while those at private universities in the province of Qazvin protested over a rise in tuition fees and lack of loans to meet the fees.

On October 23, students at Tehran University gathered outside one of the university theaters in protest at the summoning of several of their friends to the disciplinary committee.

The students were facing disciplinary action for their protest last week while Hassan Rouhani was giving a speech at the university.

Students at Gillan University, northern Iran, staged a strike and did not attend classes to protest against university officials refusing to offer dormitory places to freshmen students, who have since been forced to sleep in a prayer room.
