NCRI – Iranian Kurds held a gathering on Saturday to mark the Iranian New Year on the outskirts of Sanandaj, western Iran, but the regime’s suppressive state security forces violently attacked the participants and arrested a number of women.

The event was held in Qasrian District on Iranian New Year’s Eve late on Saturday. Iranians celebrated Nowouz 1395 on Sunday.

As the event on Saturday drew to a close and participants were heading to the town of Sanneh, the regime’s repressive police forces attacked and detained a number of female participants. Several other women were also contacted by telephone at their homes and summoned to appear at local security centers.

Due to the large turnout at the event and fearing an escalation of protests, the regime refrained from attempting to disperse the crowd at the scene of the festivities itself.

On Sunday a large group of people protested the arrests outside the regime’s Judiciary in Sanandaj.
