Security clampdown in western Iran following wave of protests

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s authorities have stepped up security measures in cities and prisons in western Iran following wave of protests at the execution of three political prisoners.

In Saqqez prison, where political prisoner Shirkou Moarefi was executed, prisoners held a memorial service in defiance of a ban by guards on ceremonies.

Reports have also emerged of threats being made to prisoners by guards at Orumiyeh Prison, where a strict security clampdown is in force.

The presence of anti-riot police has also been intensified in cities, creating a state of military siege and fear among the public.

In Saqqez, Baneh and Marivan, in Kurdistan province, security forces are patrolling the cities on motorbikes, and mobile phone networks have been jammed.

Three Kurdish political prisoners have been hanged without any prior notice in recent days, including Shirkou Moarefi who was put to death on November 4 following his arrest five years earlier and conviction for waging war on God, acting against national security and cooperating with the Komoleh group.

Habibollah Golparipour and Reza Ismaili were also both hanged on October 25 in the cities of Orumiyeh and Salmas on charges of membership of Kurdish groups opposing the regime
