Regime could be overthrown in a year: mullahs’ intel official

NCRI – The deputy commander of the Iranian regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that the regime could be overthrown in a “velvet coup” by the year’s end, the state-run Fars and Khabar Online reported on Wednesday.

Hossein Taeb, who heads the IRGC’s Intelligence Organization, tried to link the massive popular uprisings against the regime to foreign governments.

He brushed aside popular discontent by deceptively claiming instead that it is “America which has plans to create a social wave” using the lifting of subsidies by the regime as an excuse.

He said the US plans to “tire out” the regime’s military and police forces, seeking to launch a “velvet coup” by the end of this year.
