Karoubi: “As a member of this system I am ashamed of these blatant lies”

NCRI – Mehdi Karoubi, one of the former contenders in the Iranian regime’s sham presidential election, remarked about the lies propagated by regime officials after the massacre of protestors during the nationwide uprising, and said on Sunday: First they kill youth in front of people’s eyes and then they claim that they did not even have any weapons … People saw it with their own eyes how armed forces threw women down on the streets.

Karoubi added: As a number of this system, I am shamed of these blatant and irresponsible lies.

Karoubi's remarks were posted on several websites as follows:

"Following the elections, unfortunately some incidents took place which have been reported by domestic and foreign media. After the elections people had a legal demand. … However, sadly they prevented this peaceful movement and protest of the people and you saw what chaos was created in Tehran and other towns, where they attacked people with shields, helmets, batons, tear gas, and bullets. But after these incidents it was interesting that the same individuals that opened fire against people now said that we did not kill people, others did. This is astounding. People saw it with their own eyes how armed forces treated people and even threw women down on the streets. Since we live in the information age, these scenes were broadcast all over the world.

Do the people that take such actions not realize where they are living or have they forgotten that we live in the information age? On Friday at about noon I went to the Etemad-e Meli daily’s office and saw that there are motorcycles parked and their riders are equipped with guns, while tear gas is in the air. I thought that if I go further there would be clashes. I gestured that I want to attend the Friday prayers. So they brought the car and took me to the university. Although usually I entered the university with my car, this time when I reached the gate I got off my car. There was no one there but security forces affiliated with them. As soon as I got off the car they started chanting “Marg bar zedde-velayat-e faqih” (Death to enemies of absolute clerical rule). There was no one else there but you all saw the pictures of the scene where they attacked me and took off my turban.

So how can they deny their treatment of the people or blame somebody else for it? All of these events took place in front of the people. First they kill youth in front of people’s eyes and then they claim that they did not even have any weapons. As a number of this system I am shamed of these blatant and irresponsible lies.

If you claim that these actions were not carried out by forces affiliated with you so why have you not named those are must be blamed instead? What is the point of saying that people were killed by American, British, and Israeli guns?

These gentlemen first claim that these individuals were not killed by their forces and then write a letter to Imam Zaman and say that ‘our hands were empty and it was us who dedicated martyrs; we are the victims; we were unjustly treated.’ This is truly astounding.”
