Iranian opposition rally condemns G8 policy of appeasement

Iranians called for immediate transfer of the residents to Ashraf and accepting the responsibility of Camps Ashraf and Liberty by UNHCR
NCRI – On Thursday, April 11, Iranians, supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, took part in a rally in London to warn G8 about the continuation of the failed policy of appeasing Iranian regime.

hey stressed: As the diplomatic option has proven to be increasingly ineffective in convincing the regime to change course, and as the prospects of a catastrophic military intervention loom, the choice is neither an Iranian bomb nor bombing Iran. The third option, articulated by Mrs. Rajavi, namely, democratic change by relying on the Iranian people and the organized resistance is the most viable and practical approach.

The demonstrators warned of another imminent attack and a greater massacre at Camp Liberty, the temporary home of Iranian opposition members in Iraq. They called for immediate action by the international community to guarantee the protection of defenceless Iranian refugees.

While protesting at the attitude of Martin Kobler, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Iraq, Iranians reiterated that by providing promises of safety and security, quick resettlement and humanitarian standards, the representative of Secretary General sent Ashraf residents to a prison called Liberty against their will.

The protestors also underscored that Iranian refugees and asylum-seekers at Ashraf and Liberty in Iraq are completely within the mandate of the UNHCR and the High Commissioner for Refugees should undertake this responsibility immediately.

Despite assurances repeatedly provided by the UN and the US regarding the safety and security of the Iranian refugees, Camp Liberty was attacked by 40 rockets on February 9, 2013. Eight defenceless residents of the Camp were killed and more than 100 were injured.

Camp Liberty is the temporary place of residence of 3,100 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran, the principal Iranian opposition movement. Agents of the Iranian regime in Iraq claimed responsibility for February 9 attack and have threatened further attacks on the defenceless refugees. The UNHCR issued a statement on March 1 expressing its deep concern for the fate of these refugees and the prospect of another attack.
