Iranian opposition Geneva protest continued on 1187th day

NCRI – On Friday, 1 August 2014, Iranians in Geneva continued the 1187th day of their campaign calling for protection of Iranian political refugees in Camp Liberty, Iraq, and freedom of seven Camp Ashraf residents taken hostage by Iraqi forces.

Supporters of the Iranian Resistance in Geneva gathered outside the United Nations headquarters in the city to protest against the silence and inaction by the international community regarding the plight of Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty in Iraq.

The protesters called on the United Nations act to protect the residents of Camp Liberty, members and supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

The protesters said the Iranian regime and its Iraqi puppets are trying to exploit the current situation in Iraq to set up the stage for suppressive and criminal actions against the Iranians in Camp Liberty.

They demanded that the United Nations and the United States immediately transfer all of them either to Europe or to the U.S. consistent with their commitments and international law.

Until then, they said the U.N. must undertake urgent measures to ensure their protection at Camp Liberty by stationing a unit of the Blue Helmets in Camp Liberty located near Baghdad international airport.

Among the protesters were members of families of Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty which have been target of missile attack by the agents of Iranian regime with cooperation of Iraqi forces.

On September 1, 2013, the Iraqi forces attacked Camp Ashraf and killed 52 members of Iranian opposition the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and abducted seven residents including six women.

Many of the victims were executed with their hands tied behind their backs, others while receiving treatment in the camps medical center.

The massacre was widely condemned by international organizations by no independent investigation has been launched.
