Workers’ protests at unpaid wages and sackings continue across Iran

safa-shahr-protest_280x112Workers have staged more protests at unpaid wages and the sacking of colleagues at factories across Iran.

More than 400 employees at the Poly Acryl factory in the city of Isfahan staged a rally and sit-in on January 20 in anger at the ongoing policy of dividing the company to smaller units, each under different management.

They also protested over the firing of more than 180 workers of the acrylic section, where production has halted due to lack of raw materials.

More than 200 bus drivers from Tehran’s Sherkat-e Vahed bus company held a demonstration on January 13 at having their workers’ representative nominated by regime officials.

And 400 staff at the Iran Tire factory staged a protest against the expulsion of 80 co-workers – some with 15 years experience – on January 21.

One protesters said managers planned to lay off more workers on the pretext of dwindling financial resources
and raw materials for production.

Nurses in the city of Mahshahr, in the southern province of Khuzestan, also protested at two years on unpaid wages and bonuses on January 16 – the same day a health ministry official visited their hospital.

Meanwhile, residents of Golsiri, near the city Dehloran, gathered in protest on January 19 in anger at the building of a prison in their village, where they believed inmates would be tortured.

Protesters said that digging for the foundations had damaged the fiber-optic cables connecting them to Dehloran. The public in this city has also claimed that they will not allow a torture chamber be built in this area.
