Iran: The biggest threat is internal, says IRGC commander

Khamenei (right) and Jafari (left)NCRI – The Commander of the Iranian regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brig Gen Mohammad Ali Jafari, sent a clear signal on Saturday with regards to the Iranian regime's trepidation about the continuation of the people's uprising, by noting that the biggest threat to the regime is internal.

According to the state-run ISNA, he said, "We consider the most important threat against the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran system to be coming from the domestic scene. The internal threat against the Islamic revolution’s objectives is a serious threat. We believe such threats will not subside and so we must also prepare ourselves to confront this kind of threat using various scenarios for the future.”

Jafari, who was speaking at a news conference on Saturday, also added, “In view of the changing nature of threats against the Islamic Revolution, it appears that we are moving away from hard (power), military and defense threats, and towards more soft (power), political, cultural and security threats. Naturally, the organizational preparations of the IRGC to carry out its objectives must be reformed and adapted to the changing nature of the threats. In reality, this adaptation in arrangements and flexibility in the organizational program within the IRGC must take place, and we have been pursuing this for several years now.”

“The enemies are prepared to [use] every opportunity to inflict damage,” he said.

“Our state has numerous opponents in the country and abroad, and the IRGC must be ready to deal with all kinds of threats.”

The commander of the IRGC also resorted to making threatening remarks by saying, “One of our abilities is that the entire Israeli territory is within the range of our missiles and we do not have limitations in this regard. Also, the accuracy of Iranian missiles has increased in recent years. They may carry limited actions, but they cannot prevent the firing of Shahab missiles.”

He added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran today has profound spiritual influence in the Islamic world and the Middle East. It can effectively respond to military threats. The Islamic Republic's sway in many countries, especially Islamic countries, constitutes the best deterrent, which renders their actions futile.”
