Iran’s teachers hold protest despite heightened repression

NCRI – A large number of Iranian teachers on Wednesday protested outside the Iranian regime’s Majlis (Parliament) to demand their basic human rights and the release of their detained colleagues.

The rally by Iran’s teachers and educational staff took place despite heightened repression in the Iranian capital Tehran. The rally had been called by the Central Council of Teachers in response to the arrest of a number of teachers.

There was a notably large presence of women among the protesting teachers, many of who had travelled from other cities to join the rally.

The closest subway, the Baharestan Metro station, was in lock-down with suppressive forces wielding batons and shields intimidating passers-by.

The Iranian regime’s suppressive security forces summarily arrested some 100 people at the protest. There was an attempt by the regime’s suppressive forces to cut off communications at the site of the rally. People who removed mobile phones from their pockets were immediately detained.

Those arrested were transferred by vans to unknown locations.
