Iran: Protests over water shortages intensifies infighting within regime

NCRI – The last week’s protests by farmers in eastern Isfahan over water shortages have frightened the Iranian regime and have provoked further infighting among regime’s officials.

A member of Iranian regime’s parliament blamed Ahmadinejad “for the recent situation in Isfahan.”

Avaaz Haidar said on Sunday that the causes of water problems in Yazd and Isfahan are the inaction by Ahmadinejad and the promises he makes.

He said: “Ahmadinejad gives people promises in his trip around the country, but he does not hold them and this is one reason to the problems on water in Isfahan and Yazd.”

“People in provinces of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Kerman, Yazd and Isfahan demand their water from the government.”
“If the water problem continues, people of Isfahan will have difficulty in recievig potable water for the next few months,” he added.

IRGC’s Saheb Azzaman corps said in a statement on February 28: “A number of profiteers and duped individuals infiltrated the gathering of farmers with the intention of provoking a riot.”

“In this incident, beside the profiteers, the authorities are also responsible as they have been inattentive to the demands of farmers in eastern Isfahan by creating a difficult living condition for these toilers.”
