Iran: People welcome fire festival ceremony

NCRI – The youth welcome fire festival (Chaharshanbe-suri) in cities across Iran despite severe restrictions and measures imposed by the Iranian regime to prevent people from celebrating the ancient festival.

The Iranian New Year begins on Thursday March 21. Chaharshanbe-suri (Fire Festival) celebrations are held on the night before the last Wednesday of the year on the evening of March 19.

During the festival – which dates back to the 7th Century – Iranians traditionally celebrate by lighting bonfires and jumping through the flames.

The population has traditionally used the event on the last Wednesday of the Iranian year to air their grievances against the leaders of the regime.

The youth in Tehran neglected any warnings given by the Iranian regime. The sound of firecrackers and handmade grenades are already being heard in various districts.

The youth in southern city of Ahvaz, southwest of Iran also welcomed the fire festival ceremony by throwing firecrackers. The sounds of firecrackers could be heard in most hours of the day.
