Iran – Mashhad: “Death to dictator” chants amid clashes with suppressive forces

People in the city of Mashhad (northeast Iran) poured into the streets at 22:00 local time on Sunday night, chanting “God is Great.” The news of the demonstration had spread among the people shortly before the protest started. Demonstrators also chanted, “Death to dictator,” and “Death to perpetrators of coup d’etat,” referring to the fraudulent process by which Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was reinstated after the regime’s sham presidential elections.

Security forces and the paramilitary Bassij Force attacked and clashed with the demonstrators.

The demonstration was part of a nationwide uprising against the Iranian regime in its entirety, which has enveloped Iranian cities in recent days.
