Iran: Detained protesters transferred to solitary confinement

Gohardash PrisonNCRI – According to news received from Iran, last night around 21:00 local time, about 100 individuals who were arrested on Ashura uprising (December 27) were transferred to solitary confinements in Ward 5 of notorious Gohardasht Prison in Karaj (West of Tehran). They were transferred from an unknown location to Gohardasht.

According to the reports, up to four prisoners were placed in cells that could only take one person. Eight prisoners were cramped inside some cells that in normal circumstances two prisoners were kept. The overall condition in these cells is anti-humane and the prisoners are dealt with harshly. Currently Gohardasht Prison is facing an unprecedented increase in number of detainees and in salons that could take up to 90 prisoners, up to 400 to 500 prisoners are held.

Some prisoners are held in hallways and near toilets and they are forced to stay there without the least facilities. Prisoners face severe shortage of food. As such, the bread ration for prisoners has been reduced to two pieces of bread a day.

The order for massive arrests was issued by Sadeq Larijani, the regime's Judiciary Chief. The arrests were carried out upon recommendation and under supervision of Ali Khamenei, the regime's supreme leader.
