EU’s Ashton underlines Iranian people’s right to assemble

NCRI – The European Union’s chief foreign policy official, Catherine Ashton, issued a statement on Tuesday about protests in Iran the previous day, saying, she “is closely following the events taking place in Iran.”

She called on the Iranian regime authorities “to fully respect and protect the rights of their citizens, including freedom of expression and the right to assemble peacefully.”

“These are fundamental rights which need to be fully respected.”

Ms. Ashton also called on the regime “to refrain from the use of force against peaceful demonstrators,” according to the statement published on the EU’s official website.
