Confidential security report echoes regime fears over uprising

NCRI – The regime’s Supreme National Security Council has warned about the continuation of popular uprisings in a secret report to the mullahs’ Assembly of Experts, according to the state-run Fars news agency.

Saeed Jalili, the Secretary of SNSC said in the report, “The seditionists began their protests against fraud in elections, criticized the establishment’s support for the Palestinians and insulted the portraits of the Imam [Khomeini] while questioning the principle of velayat-e faqih (absolute clerical rule).”

“Their actions eventually led to the insults on (the religious day of) Ashura” on December 27, 2009, he added.

The confidential report also pointed to the February 14 protests, saying, “The enemies of the Islamic Republic were trying to paint a similar picture in Iran as Egypt and Tunisia to prevent the [regime] from becoming a role model for other regional countries.”
