CNN: Chants of “death to the dictator” heard in Tehran

NCRI – Thousands of protestors poured out into the streets of Tehran and clashes took place in various parts of the capital between demonstrators and the regime’s forces, CNN reported on Monday citing multiple witness accounts.

The news network said clashes took place in at least four areas of Tehran, including Imam Hossein Square, Enqelab Avenue, Tehran University, and Vali-e Asr Avenue.

It added that chants of “death to the dictator” were heard especially in Vali-e Asr Square, according to witnesses.

“Security and undercover forces attacked crowds with batons, paintball guns and tear gas. Thousands of security forces had tried to take control of major intersections and squares,” it said.

CNN reported that opponents also chanted “God is great” atop their rooftops on Sunday night, reminiscent of protest acts during the 2009 uprisings.

The large number of security forces deployed in the streets and intersections displays the Iranian regime’s worries about the opposition, it said, which was brutally suppressed in 2009.
