Belgian news agency: Iranians in Brussels protest Zarif visit

“At the initiative of the Association of Iranian refugees in Belgium, about a hundred people gathered on Monday from 17:30 to 19:00, outside the Brussels justice department,” the Belgian news agency Belga reported.

“They were protesting against the visit on Tuesday of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to discuss with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee, relations with the European Union after the end of international sanctions against Tehran.”

“The demonstrators waved photographs of a man hanging from a crane in a public square, and the caricature of Atena Farghadani, 29, sentenced to 12 years and nine months in prison in June 2015.”

“The demonstrators stressed that Iran has reached a world record with over 2,300 executions since Hassan Rouhani came to power in 2013.”

“They called on the European Union to make the establishment of economic relations with Iran conditional upon an advance in terms of human rights.”

“To the Iranian people, the most important issue is the defense of their rights, not the nuclear issue”, Belga quoted an activist of the National Council of Resistance of Iran as saying.

“The Iranian regime uses the country’s money for repression inside the country and also to kill the Syrian people and support Hezbollah and Assad in the war in Syria.”
