Iranian Regime is Deceiving Us, US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Says

Bob Menendez | Full Episode 10.29.21 | Firing Line with Margaret Hoover | PBS

Senator Robert Menendez, Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee said: “The Iranian regime is playing a deceptive game with us, along with dragging out negotiations on a nuclear deal.”

“There are tough sanctions that cannot be easily and unilaterally lifted by the government,” Sen. Bob Menendez told PBS correspondent Margaret Hoover.

Senator Mendez added: “The administration has shown the world that it is willing to enter into negotiations with Iran for a stronger and longer-term agreement. And I think what you get should be stronger and longer-lasting. I think Iran is playing the game of deception with us. They stretch time, they move forward at the same time, and the consequence is that the window, in my view, is really narrowing.

Whitehouse.gov – We, the President of France, Chancellor of Germany, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and President of the United States met in Rome today to discuss the risks posed to international security by Iran’s escalating nuclear program. We expressed our determination to ensure that Iran can never develop or acquire a nuclear weapon and shared our grave and growing concern that, while Iran halted negotiations on a return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) since June, it has accelerated the pace of provocative nuclear steps, such as the production of highly enriched uranium and enriched uranium metal. Iran has no credible civilian need for either measure, but both are important to nuclear weapons programs.
