Azerbaijan Arrests Pro-Iranian Regime Clerics
Amid rising tensions between Baku and Tehran, Virtualaz.org news website, a media outlet close to the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, announced on Monday that Ahliman Rustamov, a cleric at the Haji Javad Mosque in Baku, had been arrested.
In recent days, at least five clerics who had been educated in the city of Qom, have been detained and interrogated by Azerbaijani State Security Service. Those clerics, citizens of Azerbaijan, were released after interrogation, and one of them, Sardar Babayev, has been charged with treason.
Sardar Babayev is the managing director of the Maeda website, which posts religious and political propaganda. This site, along with several other religious websites, was taken down by Baku on October 23.

Iran’s Leaders Use Executions as ‘Political Tool’ To Keep Power, UN Hears
UN investigator Javaid Rehman on Monday criticised Iran for its high number of executions, for frequently using the death penalty against those convicted as minors and for using it as a “political tool” against opponents.
Mr. Rehman, the UN’s rapporteur on Iran, told a committee in New York that Iran’s theological elite use the country’s justice system and the death penalty as a way to hold on to power.

Deadly Clashes Between Security Forces and Villagers in South Iran
On Monday, following the execution of two young men in the village of Sarleh and the death of their mother suffering a stroke, locals from Patak and Sarleh districts in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province clashed with the security forces. Upon arresting 8 villagers and the announcement of their execution, other villagers took to their weapons and fought back. According to local sources, the people went to the mountains and are still fighting the state security forces. Both sides are using barricades and heavy weaponry.
Monday Protests in Iran
A group of retired personnel of the Steel Pension Fund from the cities of Ahvaz, Isfahan, Shahroud, and Tehran gathered in front of the Central Steel Fund office in Iran’s capital to protest against the officials’ refusal to pay their pension.
On Monday morning, administrative staff of the regime’s Judiciary gathered in front of the ministry’s office in several cities across the country to protest their living conditions. The protesters demand an increase in their salary.
The skyrocketing inflation is making life unbearable for Iranians from all walks of life and even state employees are unable to cope with the current circumstances.

Iran Coronavirus Update: Over 463,400 Deaths, Domestic Vaccines Described as Mirage
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Sunday, October 23, 2021, that the COVID-19 death toll in 547 cities had exceeded 463,400. The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 108,545 in Tehran, 37,935 in Razavi Khorasan, 31,510 in Isfahan, 28,430 in Khuzestan, 17,068 in West Azerbaijan, 17,060 in Mazandaran, 16,900 in Fars, 16,170 in Gilan, 13,658 in Alborz, 8499 in Kermanshah, 7432 in Kurdistan, 5908 in North Khorasan, 5800 in Ardabil, 5269 in QQazvin, and 4418 in Ilam. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

Iranians Celebrate Anniversary of Maryam Rajavi’s Election
The network of the Iranian opposition movement inside Iran, also known as the Resistance Units, celebrated the anniversary of Maryam Rajavi’s election by the Iranian Resistance in 1993 as the President-elect for an interim period after the overthrow of the mullahs’ regime.
In various parts of Tehran and major cities such as Mashhad, Isfahan, and Shiraz, the supporters of the Iranian opposition movement the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) installed large posters of Maryam Rajavi and took to graffiti with slogans supporting her for a free Iran.
