Socio-economic Crises and State Suppression Claim High Death Toll in Kurdistan Province

Human rights organizations and local sources have reported multiple human rights violations in the western Kurdistan province in recent days.

A citizen from Mahabad, identified as the 29-year-young Younes Tanhaei, who was recently arrested and severely tortured by MOIS agents, was transferred to the quarantine ward of Mahabad Central Prison on Thursday, September 1. According to a local human rights organization, Younes was arrested on Sunday, August 14, and severely tortured for 18 days. Younes was accused by the MOIS of cooperating with a Kurdish opposition group.

On Thursday, September 1, a “kulbar” (poor freight carrier who carries heavy loads over the border for making a living) named “Ayoub Moloudi” was shot and injured by the regime’s border regiment on the border of Nowsud, the western part of the country. The criminal security forces directly shot this citizen without prior warning and from a close distance. Ayoub was wounded in the thigh and left hand. Mr. Moloudi has been transferred to Quds Paveh Hospital for medical treatment.

On the same day, another “kulbar” named “Reza Hasani” (30) was injured due to direct firing by security forces at the “Hengehjal” border of Baneh and was transferred to Salahuddin Ayubi Baneh hospital for medical treatment. The border regiment soldiers have also shot at this “kulbar” without prior warning and from close range.

Also on September 1, another “kulbar” named Karim Rasouli, son of Hasan from the city of Baneh was injured by security forces. According to an informed source, the soldiers directly fired at this “kulbar” with a shotgun from close range and without prior warning. The “kulbar” has reportedly been transferred to Baneh medical centers for treatment. Karim Rasouli is married and has three children.

On Wednesday, August 31, a 22-year-young man named Saleh Rashidzadeh from the village of “Qalaresh” in Sardasht was killed by the security forces on the border of Baneh.

An 18-year-young man from Kamiyaran, identified as Karzan Saberi committed suicide and ended his life at 6 am on Thursday, September 1. This is the fourth case of suicide of young people under 18 years old in the last two months in the city of Kamiyaran.

According to a human rights organization, following the death of his cousin, Karzan Saberi ended his life by taking pills. Karzan’s aunt’s son was seriously injured in a car accident a few days ago and died last night.

According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, on Wednesday morning, August 31, the death sentence of a 27-year-young prisoner named “Mohammad Hassan Kahrari” from Kermanshah and Morteza Teymuri (28) from Kuhdasht of Lorestan province, was carried out in Arak prison without their families being notified to pay the last visit. According to this report, Mohammad Hassan Kehrari was arrested and sentenced to death two years ago on narcotics-related charges. The execution of this prisoner has not been announced by the Iranian state media or official sources.

A 13-year-old boy from Sanandaj named Shahdad Nemati hanged himself on Wednesday, August 31, for unknown reasons. According to a local source, the body of Shahdad was handed over to his family by a forensic doctor and buried.

Iran has been witnessing an increase in the number of suicides among teenagers and children, mostly in Kurdistan province. At least 40 boys under the age of 18 have committed suicide in different cities of Kurdistan.

A young woman from Urmia, identified as the 27-year-young Lemia Saeed Haroyan committed suicide and ended her life on Wednesday, August 31. According to a local human rights organization, Lemia committed self-immolation after her sister’s wedding ceremony and died due to severe burning. The motive for her actions has not been made public so far.

A student from Sanandaj, identified as the 20-year-young Ashkan Jamshidi was arrested by the forces of the Ministry of Intelligence and his fate is still unknown. According to a local human rights organization, Ashkan was arrested on Sunday, August 28, while going to work. MOIS agents arrested him without presenting any judicial documents or justification. A student of interior architecture engineering at Yazdan Panah University in Sanandaj, all efforts of this young man’s family to learn about his whereabouts have been unsuccessful so far.


Can the Regime in Iran Increase Prices While Containing the Public?

Signs indicate the mullahs’ regime ruling Iran is paving the path to increase the prices of gasoline and other energy sources. Shortage of gasoline at pump stations, a 100-liter decrease in the gasoline rations, along with an expanding state media echo chamber over a large volume of gasoline being smuggled to neighboring countries due to Iran’s low gasoline prices and an uncontrolled consumption by the general public… are all signs of the regime’s known modus operandi, used time and again by the mullahs in such circumstances, in preparation to announce a new gasoline price hike. Regime officials, however, are keeping a close tab on escalating protests and discontent throughout Iran.

10 Female Seasonal Workers Lost Their Lives on Iran’s Unsafe Roads

10 female seasonal workers died in a tragic accident on Shushtar road. A minibus and a truck crashed on the morning of August 30, 2022. Sixteen were killed and eight wounded. Ten female seasonal workers were among the dead. (The state-run isna.ir, August 30, 2022)

A young woman, 15, was among those wounded. She was severely hurt in the leg. Another young woman, 20, suffered a ruptured liver and needed to undergo surgery. Her condition was reported to be worse than others.

Iran’s Elites Are Gone ‘Forever’

On August 29, the Iranian regime’s state-run daily Etemad published an article entitled ‘They are gone forever’, which pointed to the critical situation of the ‘brain drain’ in Iran. The regime’s president Ebrahim Raisi ordered the Center for Presidential Strategic Studies to implement the plan of “elite retention and reverse migration”.

However, contrary to the regime’s claim about the success of this plan, the state-run media is writing about its failure.
