Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 37

Numerous cities across Iran turned into flashpoints today. Once again, protesters continued the uprising in universities, city centers, and bazaars and showed their fierce determination to bring this regime to an end. Protesters gathered in Tabriz, Mashhad, Tehran, Shiraz, Kermanshah, Dezful, Shahinshahr, Arak, and Mahabad, as well as many cities in Kurdistan province, openly and fearlessly challenging the regime.

A huge demonstration of over 80,000 Iranians in Berlin, Germany, took place in solidarity with the uprising where people from all stripes came together to express their will to overthrow the religious dictatorship of Ali Khamenei and his accomplices.

More than a month into the uprising, industrial and teachers’ strikes have swung into force, adding to the woes of a governing system that has no answer for the general populace other than suppression, torture, intimidation, and brutality. The Iranian public is now bent on intensifying the protests even if it means enduring more socio-economic pain. According to some gas station owners in Tehran, ordinary people who ask for more gas and learn that the stations are on low rationing due to strikes in the oil and gas sector actually react with joy and hopefulness, rather than being annoyed.

IRGC Brig. Gen. Hossein Ashtari, commander of the regime’s State Security Force, stated on October 21 that 94 individuals affiliated to the MEK have been arrested in the protests throughout Iran. The expansion rate of MEK-affiliated Resistance َnits during the uprising has far outpaced the regime’s detentions. Detainees face rape, torture, and death, and their families are targeted for brutal retaliation. Despite these savage tactics, Iranian youth are flocking to organized resistance.

Latest Update on Iran Uprising

The southeastern city of Zahedan saw huge protests on Friday by protesters who commemorated the savage assault of security forces on worshippers at the Makki Mosque and the citizens of Zahedan on September 30. The “Bloody Friday” led to at least 93 people being killed. The Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan, Molavi Abdolhamid, addressed the atrocity in his sermon and placed the blame directly on Ali Khamenei, the disgraced leader of the religious dictatorship ruling the country. Citizens of Zahedan protested after the worship ceremony and changed, “Unity, unity,” “Death to Basiji,” “Death to the dictator,” and “From Zahedan to Tehran, I sacrifice my life for Iran”, effectively lambasting state efforts to accuse Iranian ethnic minorities of being separatists.

Reports from Tehran indicate there were protests in several parts of the city and the nightly chants of “Death to Khamenei” could be heard in various parts of the capital.

The strike of oil and petrochemical industrial workers is expanding, and a group of workers called ‘Freedom-Seeking Oil Workers’ has expanded its activities and called for more strikes across the country. The general strike in Kurdistan province is still in place with shops in almost all cities in the region closed.

Workers of several phases of the South Pars Gas-Condensate field, Bushehr Petrochemical Company and Hengam Petrochemical Company, both of which operate at Asalouyeh Complex, Abadan Petrochemical company and refinery, Mahshahr’s refinery and Pipe Mill Plant, as well as Neyriz Ghadir Steel Complex off the coasts of the Persian Gulf, have been on strikes in solidarity with the protests across the country.

The Internet in Iran continues to be blocked as the regime clamps down on the free flow of information to hinder reporting on the uprising. At least 38 journalists working in the highly controlled media industry in Iran have been detained, according to international press organizations monitoring the situation. The regime is spinning a narrative that the protests have died down and has ordered the press to tamp down on reporting and tow the line that the protests have ended.

German CDU/CSU Calls on Berlin to Close Iranian Regime’s Spy Nest in Hamburg

According to a German newspaper, the Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union parliamentary factions have submitted a plan to the German parliament to support nationwide protests in Iran, demanding the closure of the Hamburg Islamic Center as an “arm of the Iranian regime”.

According to the source, for exiled Iranians who once fled Iran to Germany from the “repressive regime”, it is not acceptable that the German government has applied an appeasement policy out of fear of spoiling its relations with the Iranian regime, and has not yet taken action against the organizations and associations affiliated to the regime.

The Islamic Center of Hamburg is considered the most important center of activities and propaganda of the Iranian regime in Germany and the mayor of Hamburg has also planned to stop its activities.

FATF: High-risk Jurisdictions Subject to a Call for Action – 21 October 2022

Given Iran’s failure to enact the Palermo and Terrorist Financing Conventions in line with the FATF Standards, the FATF fully lifts the suspension of counter-measures and calls on its members and urges all jurisdictions to apply effective counter-measures, in line with Recommendation 19.

Iran will remain on the FATF statement on [High-Risk Jurisdictions Subject to a Call for Action] until the full Action Plan has been completed. If Iran ratifies the Palermo and Terrorist Financing Conventions, in line with the FATF standards, the FATF will decide on the next steps, including whether to suspend countermeasures. Until Iran implements the measures required to address the deficiencies identified with respect to countering terrorism-financing in the Action Plan, the FATF will remain concerned with the terrorist financing risk emanating from Iran and the threat this poses to the international financial system.

Anti-regime Protests in Iran Continue as Revolution Enters Its Sixth Week

The nationwide uprising in Iran is entering its sixth week on Friday, marking the 36th day of the ongoing anti-regime protests.

Protests in Iran have to this day expanded to 193 cities. Iran’s Special Force Attack and Kill Prisoners in Evin

Iran’s Special Force (NOPO), guarding the Supreme Leader, which is linked to the Revolutionary Guards, attacked political prisoners held in Wards 7 and 8 of Evin Prison on October 15, 2022.

The state forces used live ammunition and shotguns on the prisoners late in the evening as a deadly clash formed in Iran’s notorious prison. Prisoners endured suffocation due to severe smoke caused by tear gas fired at them.
