Latest Updates on the Uprising on Wednesday

Large-scale and geographically expansive demonstrations today in Tehran, the capital, and in the northern, western, southern, and eastern urban centers and towns of Iran have again stunned the regime and deployed its most violent and brutal crackdown to date.

Ali Khamenei spoke today to reiterate that his regime will continue to suppress protesters who are calling for his regime’s downfall, while also signaling that his regime’s loyalists and apologists may be vacillating in the face of a general uprising in over 177 cities of all 31 provinces for nearly a month now.

The protests today were met with unprecedented violence in the past 27 days as plainclothes Basij and IRGC commanders teamed up with uniformed security forces to prey on protesters whom they beat with truncheons and shot at close range.

Despite the regime violence, protesters maintained their presence in the streets and held sway in some neighborhoods at times, challenging the security forces and fending off the attacks in many cases.

At noon on Wednesday, October 12, a group of lawyers held a protest rally in front of the Lawyers Bar Association building and expressed their support for the popular uprising. Minutes after the rally started, security agents were dispatched and shot tear gas at the protesters.

Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 27

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Social Headquarters in Iran

Wednesday, October 12, 2022 – 5 PM CET

Protests kicked off in major cities Wednesday after a call by activists and despite a severe interdiction of Internet traffic and almost near shutdown across Iran. Not having been able to fully stop citizen reporting from Iran, the regime has now resorted to shutting down not only mobile phone networks’ data access to the Internet but also landline home connections.

Reports indicated heavy police presence and helicopters circling above Tehran protest sites in Tehran. Many locations in Tehran are currently scenes of protests against the brutality of regime forces and calling for the downfall of the regime with “Death to Dictator”.

Security forces have used machine guns and heavy weapons in a bid to quell demonstrations in the city of Sanandaj earlier this week as protests have continued with protesters in control during the night and regime security forces and army units patrolling streets and squares during the day.

Washington Post: Women are leading a revolution in Iran

The Washington Post published a commentary by Ms. Sona Samsami, the NCRI’s Representative in the U.S. about the ongoing Iran protests and the leading role of Iranian women.

“Women are a major force for change for good reason. Misogyny is ingrained in the ruling religious tyranny. Since the first day that the mullahs usurped power after Iran’s anti-monarchical revolution in 1979, they made it clear that the suppression of women is a strategic priority. Thus, Iranian women’s struggle for equality has been for decades and remains key to obtaining freedom and democracy for the broader population,” read the article in part.

Day 26 – Iran’s Protests Continue With the Slogan: “This Is No Longer a Protest; It Is a Revolution”

Revolutions often start because of unbridled injustice against the society or a minority or because of the courage of a person whose act ignites the people’s fury. In the past years, Iran’s people have revolted against the regime, but the regime was able to crack down on the protests.

This time it seems to be different and for the regime, it is too difficult to contain the protests. Anger is more widespread than in the past years. The people have suffered heavily under the mullahs’ rule, especially because the regime and its Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have control of over 70 percent of the country’s economy, causing great suffering for millions of Iranians.
