On the first anniversary of Zahedan’s Bloody Friday massacre, in tandem with protests by Baluch people in several cities across Sistan and Baluchestan, Resistance Units held anti-regime activities across the country.

Resistance Units are a network of activists inside Iran associated with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI). September 2023 Report: Anniversary of the Iran Uprising

September marked the anniversary of the Iran Uprising on September 16, 2022, sparked by the death of innocent Zhina Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman from Saqqez, who was viciously brutalized by the guidance patrols (or the Morality Police) in Tehran for not abiding by the strict government dress code. The clerical regime, considerably weakened by the uprising last year, started a wave of arrests and rearrests of rights activists, student activists, former political prisoners, and families of the protests’ martyrs a few months earlier.

It also embarked on a nationwide purge of universities and even schools of professors and teachers who had supported the student protests, which continued into September.

The Resilience of the Resistance Units In The 2022 Uprising

In a situation where the Iranian regime spared no effort to swiftly suppress every voice of protest and freedom on the anniversary of the 2022 uprising, Iran’s resistance, both within and outside the country, achieved a remarkable victory. The Resistance Units carried out over 500 powerful activities in more than 40 cities, disrupting the slumber of the ruling mullahs. With two significant gatherings in Brussels and New York, Iran’s resistance emerged as the resounding voice of protesting youth and people who remain firm in their quest for freedom.

Across various cities, the Resistance Units and their dedicated young supporters took to the streets, even in the face of heavy security presence, boldly chanting slogans against regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei. This audacious action rekindled hope in the hearts of those yearning for freedom and equality.

It bears a haunting resemblance to the infamous “Black Friday” of September 8, 1978, when the Shah dictatorship sought to suppress anti-regime protests in the build-up to the 1979 revolution. Astonishingly, 44 years later, the ruling clerics repeated this fatal mistake, committing a crime on Zahedan’s Bloody Friday. The regime’s supreme Leader Ali Khamenei mistakenly believed that he could quell the nationwide uprising by brutally targeting the most deprived and impoverished segments of society, who had nothing to lose but their already miserable lives.
