Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 51

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

Saturday, November 5, 2022 – 8 PM CET

  • Days: 51
  • Protests: 214 cities
  • Fatalities: 500+ estimated deaths, 356 identified by MEK, over 50 teenagers
  • Detentions: 25,000+

Yesterday’s massacre in the Sistan and Baluchistan city of Khash included many teenagers as protesters expressed outrage at the regime. Over 20 protesters were reported to have been killed by gun shots and otherwise during the Khash demonstration yesterday, and over 60 were wounded, some seriously. Protesters chanted “For every one person killed, one thousand are in line.”

Youth neighborhood groups have once again issued calls for protests in different areas of the capital and other cities. Resistance units and youth have said many times that they will remain in the streets until the overthrow of the regime. The calls for protests are in memory of protesters killed in previous demonstrations and for those killed in the southeastern city of Khash on November 4.

The fearless presence of women and youth in the streets and their flash presence in various neighborhoods has exasperated the security forces who are seen in some videos aimlessly running around to confront protesters. Security forces are stretched thin by the uprising’s tactics and are exhausted after long hours of deployment.

Strikes in Kurdistan and Khash in the southeast continued. University and high school students throughout Iran mounted anti-regime demonstrations on campuses.

In a bid to clamp down on the expanding and ferocious uprising against the regime, its judiciary and security officials announced the arrest of several protesters as leaders in the uprising and with ties to the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) in Mazandaran (north), Fars (south-central), and Yazd (central Iran). Deputy representative of regime Ali Khamenei in the city of Birjand, a cleric by the name of Hossein Tayebifar, was quoted by the state-run news agency, IRNA, as saying today, “50 of the leaders of the riots in the country were from the MEK.” The regime’s boastful claims ignore and hide its apprehension of an escalating uprising and expanding resistance units all over Iran.

We Identified 50 Leaders of Protests Who Were MEK Members,  Official Says

Hossein-Tayabifar-1

Hossein Tayabifar, deputy of the regime’s Supreme Leader’s representative at the IRGC said that security forces have identified 50 of the protest leaders who belong to the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization.

Addressing a meeting in Birjand, Tayebifar warned: “If we do not stand by the state and our martyrs and if we fail to fulfill our duty toward the leadership, thugs will become more active and harm people’s lives and property.”

State-run Tabnak website quoted him as adding: “About 50 of the leaders identified in the country’s recent riots were hypocrites (regime’s phrase to smear the MEK in Iran’s society).
