Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 58

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

As the anniversary of Iran’s November Uprising of 2019 approaches, protesters are gearing up for further showdowns with the religious dictatorship’s security forces on the streets. Wall graffiti in Iran’s cities reads: “I write Aban (Persian calendar month from 23 Oct to 22 Nov), you read Payan (Persian for the end)”, messaging the end of Ali Khamenei’s religious fascist regime.

The Aban or November 2019 uprising was initially triggered by a 50–200% increase in fuel prices, but the demonstrations quickly turned to calls for the overthrow of the government in Iran and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. As many as 1,500 Iranian protesters were killed, mostly by gunfire from security forces, in less than a week.

Resistance units and activists in Iran have called for the commemoration of that uprising and the 1,500 people killed by security forces in November 2019, calling for large demonstrations next week. Internationally also, there have been calls for commemoration protests in many cities, spanning from Australia to North America at the end of the month.

Demonstrations will start from high schools, universities, and bazaars and continue with neighborhood-centered gatherings to move to the main squares of cities.

In Sirjan, south-central Iran, graffiti near the local MP’s office read, “Death to the murderous MP,” in response to a call by 227 MPs demanding the execution of recently arrested protesters.

High school and university students in Tehran’s many university campuses, Babol, Sanandaj, Zahedan, and other cities, again engaged in demonstrations, rallies, sit-ins, and other protest activities today.

Protesters attacked many suppressive centers last night across Iran with Molotov cocktails, such as in Babolsar.

Recently obtained footage from Sabzevar, northeast Iran, shows protesters attacking a senior judiciary official (chief prosecutor Mir Alam Seyedi) in this city. Protesters claim that regime prosecutors have signed death sentences and detentions with torture for their companions.

State-Affiliated Expert Warns Regime Officials of the “Devastating Flood of Dissent.”

As major protests continue across Iran, more officials and state-affiliated experts warn the clerical regime of the Iranian people’s determination to topple the regime. In this regard, Amanullah-Qaraie Moghadam, a state-affiliated sociologist, warned authorities of what he described as “the devastating flood of dissent.”

“We should consider that once we fail to quell the restive population, the wave of dissent turns into a devastating flood and wouldn’t make an exception. Authorities should be careful and listen to people’s demands and opinions so that they can prevent riots and unrest, or the dangerous arm conflict between people and the government,” he said, according to the state-run Etemad online website on November 11.

“The problem is that authorities do not realize that society is completely different from what it was 20 or even five years ago, and everything evolves rapidly. The young generation does not obey the system, and the system cannot constantly.

People call for regime change, and this wave of dissent continues despite the regime’s attempts to quash it. This is a testament to the fact that this uprising is organized.

What became evident during the current uprising is the role of the “Resistance Units” network associated with the Iranian opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
