Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll In 541 Cities Exceeds 273,200
Iran – Anti-Regime Rallies in 20 Cities on International Workers Day
Despite repressive and deterrent measures, on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day, workers and laborers gathered in Tehran and 19 other cities to protest against the clerical regime’s plundering and anti-labor policies. Protest rallies took place in Tehran, Karaj, Mashhad, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Borujerd, Arak, Bojnurd, Khorramabad, Ilam, Ahvaz, Rasht, Sari, Isfahan, Qazvin, Maragheh, Shush, Shahinshahr, Neyshabur, and Qom, from 15 provinces. In Tehran, protesters gathered in front of the regime’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and in other cities there were gatherings in front of the social security offices.
International Labor Day: A look at the lives of Iranian workers
International Labor Day is an occasion to think about and appreciate the hard-working people who are key to every country’s economy. In Iran, workers are marking their annual celebration while struggling to achieve their most basic rights. On April 28, regime president Hassan Rouhani deceitfully said, “Job security is the main concern of Iranian workers.” It is worth noting that while Rouhani feigns concern for the plight of workers, during his presidency, the work and living conditions of workers have declined to an all-time low.
At Least 30 Protesters Detained in Tehran’s Labor Day Protests
At least 30 protesters were detained today during Labor Day protests in Tehran today. According to the Iran Workers Free Union, security forces had been stationed around the Ministry of Labor where labor unions and activists planned to gather for Labor Day protests. The security forces scattered the protesters who were on their way to the Ministry and detained at least 30 people including labor activists Assal Mohammadi, Hirad Pir Bodaghi and Saied Malayeri.
Dozens of Labor Activists Arrested at May Day Gatherings in Iran
Dozens of Iranian workers and employees were arrested today in rallies marking International Labor Day in Tehran. Labor rights activists Asal Mohammadi, Hirad Pirbodaghi, Saeed Malayeri, are among those arrested outside the regime’s Labor Ministry.
Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company has also confirmed the arrest of “dozens” of its members including Reza Shahabi, Hassan Saeedi, Vahid Fereidooni, Nasser Moharramzadeh, Seyyed Rasoul Talebmoghaddam, Mohammad Ali Aslaghi and Asdollah Soleymani.
Security Forces Arrest Locals Following Protest Over Government Land Grabs in Western Iran
A man was arrested for publishing a videos of Wednesday protests in a village in Iran’s Lorestan province over the cutting down of local’s walnut trees by government agents, the state run IRNA news agency reported on April 30. According to the report the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Selseleh city in Lorestan province announced the arrest of a ‘Telegram admin’ for publishing a video of clashes between police and residents of a village in the Kahman region on Wednesday.”
Younes Azadpour accused the man of “feeding the hostile media.”
Amnesty International Condemns Destruction of Khavaran Cemetery
In a recent statement, Amnesty International warned about the destruction the Khavaran burial site in Tehran by the Iranian authorities. “Iranian authorities are banning members of the persecuted Baha’i minority from burying their loved ones in empty plots at a cemetery near Tehran that they have used for decades, instead insisting they bury them between existing graves within the cemetery or at the nearby Khavaran mass grave site for victims of the 1988 prison massacres,” Amnesty International said in its statement.
Majority of U.S. Lawmakers Support Iranian People’s Desire for Freedom and Justice
On April 27, on the eve of U.S. President Joe Biden’s address to the joint session of Congress and amidst the Vienna-based nuclear talks with the Iranian government, several members of the U.S. House of Representatives presented a bipartisan resolution cosponsored by 225 Members of Congress, a House majority. The U.S. lawmakers called on Biden to set his policy toward Iran based on ending its state-backed terrorism and egregious human rights violations. They also encouraged the President to support the Iranian people’s desire for a free, secular, and non-nuclear republic of Iran.
