Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 181

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

Wednesday, March 15, 2023 – 8 PM GMT + 1

Iran’s nationwide uprising witnessed its 181st day on Wednesday as Iranians across the country took to the streets last night, with an outburst of major anti-regime protests as the nation marked its annual Fire Festivities. Despite heavy measures imposed by regime authorities to prevent the evolving of these celebrations into protests against the mullahs’ dictatorship, people in Tehran and dozens of other cities and towns took advantage of the occasion by targeting the regime’s repressive forces and symbols and voicing their protests and chanting slogans against the ruling theocracy that is controlling the country with an iron fist.

It is noteworthy that traditionally, the Fire Festival, celebrated on the last Tuesday of the Persian calendar year, has been an occasion for protesting against the regime. With the current explosive state of society, the regime had taken extra security measures to prevent any type of rally from taking place.

Meanwhile, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) declared a nationwide protest campaign on the Fire Festival in February. And the people took to the streets nonetheless, celebrated the Fire Festival, and marked the end of the year with slogans such as “Death to the dictator!” and “Death to Khamenei!,” “Death to the oppressor, be it the Shah or the Leader,” and “Death to Khamenei, hail to Rajavi.”

In Bukan, northwest Iran, defiant youth staged protests celebrating the fire festival.

On Wednesday Retirees and pensioners of the regime’s Social Security Organization in the city of Shush rallied, protesting high prices, poverty, corruption, inflation, and their poor work/living conditions. A similar march and rally were held in the city of Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan Province in southwest Iran.

Pensioners and retirees are among the worst-hit segments of Iran’s society. They depend on government stipends to make ends meet, but the regime has refused to increase their pensions in correspondence with growing inflation and the depreciation of the national currency.

February 2023 Report: Gas Poisoning of School Girls in Iran

One of the significant news items in Iran during February and March was the gas poisoning of young women and chemical attacks on girls’ high schools. These cruel acts of biological terror appear to be the Iranian regime’s latest attempt to quash protests and the ongoing six-month revolution led by young women and schoolgirls.

The serial gas poisonings are reminiscent of the atrocities committed by the Nazis against Jews in concentration camps like Auschwitz and serve as a stark reminder of the cruelty of the mullahs’ regime.
