Car Bombing Kills Two Pro-Iran Fighters In Syria: Monitor

AFP – A car bombing killed two pro-Iran fighters in the eastern Syrian city of Deir Ezzor on Saturday, a war monitor said. An explosive device went off in an SUV near the Iranian cultural centre, killing two Iran-backed fighters, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Government forces and Iran-backed groups imposed a security cordon around the site of the attack, said the Observatory, a Britain-based organisation with a network of sources on the ground in the war-torn country. It was unclear who was behind the attack in Deir Ezzor city, a stronghold of Tehran that is home to Iranian advisers, institutions, and the cultural centre.

The Children Of Iran’s Revolution Still Want to Go West

Growing up, Iran’s aghazadehs, the children of the elite, chanted death to America each morning at school. But as soon as they had finished their education, they set off in search of the American dream. Iran touts its pivot to Russia and China, but the aghazadehs of the Islamic Republic still want to go West. Among them are close relatives of two of the front-runners in Iran’s presidential election on June 28th, Ali Larijani and Mohammad Qalibaf. They have settled in Britain and Canada. The supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has several family members in Britain and France, including his nephew, Mahmoud Moradkhani.

European Powers Detail Iran’s Nuclear Violations to U.N. Security Council

In a concerted effort to pressure Iran into resolving issues surrounding its nuclear program diplomatically, three European powers—Britain, France, and Germany—have submitted a detailed letter to the U.N. Security Council outlining Iran’s violations of the 2015 nuclear deal.

This move, although not explicitly threatening the reimposition of U.N. sanctions, comes ahead of the expiration of U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231 on October 18, 2025.

The E3’s letter, dated June 3, references a recent report by the U.N. nuclear watchdog, which highlights Iran’s nuclear advances, including the expansion of its stockpile and production rates of high-enriched uranium, in violation of the 2015 agreement.

Mostafa Pourmohammadi’s Controversial Presidential Candidacy

Mostafa Pourmohammadi, a significant figure in Iran’s political landscape, has announced his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections despite his controversial past.

Pourmohammadi is infamously known as one of the principal perpetrators of the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran. Previously disqualified from the Assembly of Experts election in February 2023, Pourmohammadi has now set his sights on the presidency.

His close association with the regime’s demised president Ebrahim Raisi and his status as a confidant of the Supreme Leader underscore his influence within the regime. Pourmohammadi’s involvement in the 1988 massacre, during which more than 30,000 political prisoners were executed, marks a dark chapter in his career.

Excessive Dam Construction Causing Mass Destruction to Iran’s Nature

Abbas Mohammadi, director of the Mountain Watch Association and environmental activist, warned about the drying up of Lake Urmia, stating that the dam construction by the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Energy, costing tens of billions of dollars in recent years, “has been futile and our water situation is getting worse day by day.”

Criticizing the Ministry of Energy’s excessive dam construction and its destructive impact on pastures and “valuable archaeological sites,” he said the result of these actions has been “the submergence of many of Iran’s pastures, historical monuments, valuable archaeological sites, and the displacement of people.”

This civil activist, discussing the destructive impact of the Ministry of Energy’s policies on the drying up of Lake Urmia, told the Khabar Online website that “dozens of dams have been built on the rivers that flow into this lake, blocking the water paths that should feed the lake.”

On Thursday, June 6, the Associated Press announced that the Houthis in Yemen, who are supported by the Iranian government, unveiled a new solid-fuel missile in their arsenal, which resembles a missile previously showcased by the Iranian regime and described as “hypersonic.”

Images released by the Houthis late Wednesday, June 5, show the missile rising on a mobile launcher and rapidly firing with white smoke emanating from its engine. According to the Associated Press, white smoke is common in solid-fuel missiles.

Khamenei’s Role in the Gaza Bloodshed Discussed by Palestinian Leaders

On June 3, 2024, during his speech commemorating Khomeini’s death, Khamenei discussed the violent operations and bloodshed in Gaza. He referred to the war and bloodshed in Gaza as the “Al-Aqsa Storm.” However, Palestinian officials and leaders label it as a catastrophe. Khamenei stated, “The Al-Aqsa Storm operation succeeded in halting the peace and normalization process in the region. No one should harbor hopes for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.” Palestinian leaders reacted to and condemned Khamenei’s interference in Palestine’s internal affairs.

The president of the Palestinian Authority accused the Iranian regime of sacrificing the Muslim population in Gaza, and the West Bank for Tehran’s wider regional ambitions. In a released statement on Monday, PA leader Mahmoud Abbas argued that local Muslims “are the first to be affected by this war which has shed their blood.”
