Protests Resume in Zahedan Despite Security Measures, Internet Restrictions

The brave Baluchis in the restive city of Zahedan, the provincial capital of Sistan & Baluchestan in southeast Iran, took to streets again on Friday in new anti-regime protests and rejection of any kind of dictatorship in their country. These protests took place despite the regime’s extensive security measures and internet restrictions. These rallies are continuing the Iranian people’s uprising against the mullahs’ tyranny as people from all walks of life take to streets across the country to voice their opposition to the regime. Local reports indicated that the regime shut down internet access in Zahedan as the Friday prayers began, which has become the prelude to the weekly protests of the people. Why Won’t James Cleverly Stand Up to Iran?

The Foreign Office is making a big mistake in failing to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) as a terrorist group. The 100,000 strong organisation, the most powerful wing of Iran’s security apparatus, was established after the 1979 Islamic revolution. For decades it has been at the heart of Iranian support for global terrorism on foreign soil, including the UK and Europe. It also arms and supports militant groups across the Middle East. By any rational measure the group meets all the criteria for a ban under the 2000 Terrorism Act. Yet the Foreign Office continues to avoid the necessary step of proscribing the revolutionary guards, despite fresh evidence from MI5 of its growing menace. Since the start of 2022, the UK has responded to more than 15 credible threats to kill or kidnap British or UK-based individuals by the Iranian regime. Tehran has publicly called for the killing and capture of the people targeted and, in some cases, detained or harassed their family members in Iran.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) and Other Financial Institutions (OFIs) in the country to be wary of transactions with businesses and persons in the Russian Federation, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran and Cameroun. According to CBN, Nigerian banks and other financial institutions needed to watch transactions with those countries because they had been placed under the high-risk jurisdictions list by the Financial Action Task Force (FASTF).

The FATF is the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog. It sets international standards that aim to prevent these illegal activities and the harm they cause to society. Other countries on the list include: Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Croatia, Vietnam and Myanmar. The CBN said that its action flowed from the decisions taken by members of the FATF at a plenary which was held last month.
