Power Outages: More Reason to Protest

Iranians have all reasons to rally and protest against the corrupt regime that thrives by plundering their wealth and disregards their health. Power outages have disrupted the lives and livelihood of the population in many ways. According to reports, even hospitals and ICUs were indiscriminately hit by the blackouts.

Reports from Tehran, Qaem Shahr, Kazerun, Bandar Gaz, Juybar, Fereydunkenar, Hasanabad, Bahnemir, Khorramabad, Marivan, and other cities reveal how devastating the situation has become.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Sunday, July 4, 2021, that the Coronavirus in 547 cities had exceeded 322,600. The number of victims in Tehran has reached 75,416, Isfahan 21,800, Khuzestan 20,441, Khorasan Razavi 19,640, Lorestan 12,635, West Azerbaijan 11,973, Fars 10,852, Qom 9,900, Alborz 9,158, Sistan and Baluchestan 7,926, Kerman 7,453, Hamedan 6,918, Yazd 5,367, Semnan 5,335, Hormozgan 4,865, Bushehr 3,514, and Ilam 3,371.

Iran’s Bar Association Rejects Judiciary’s Guidelines That Violate Lawyer’s Independence

Iran’s National Union of the Bar Association issued a statement yesterday in protest to new guidelines issued by the Judiciary on June 30. According to state-run media, the lawyer’s guideline with 164 articles was confirmed and issued by Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi, during his last days as Chief Justice. The National Union said the new regulations violate the union’s independence and will infringe on the lawyer’s right to defend citizens. The new regulations no longer allow the union to issue law certificates, giving this authority to the judiciary. The guideline has also added the Islamic Law curriculum to law exams.

In a brief message from Amol Prison, Golrokh Iraee declared that since the women detainees in Amol Prison are deprived of their minimum rights, “I will refuse to use the telephone or go for visitations –which are accompanied every time by the guards’ insults– until the current miserable condition is ended.”

The Iranian judiciary executed three prisoners including a minor today in Urmia, northwestern Iran. According to the Human Rights News Agency, the three prisoners were identified as Bahaodin and Davoud Ghasemzadeh, and Anvar Abdollahi. Davoud and Bahaodin were detained in 2009 on two murder charges. Bahaoddin was 17 at that time. In a tweet, Amnesty International called for the cessation of the execution.
