Iran: Protests in Mahabad After Authorities Murder Kurdish Activist Under Torture
Kurdish political prisoner Peyman Galvani died of injuries after being severely tortured by security forces. Galvani, 24, was arrested at his on June 25 in Mahabad and taken to a security facility, where he was brutally beaten. He was taken to a hospital in Urmia after he entered a state of coma, where he succumbed to his injuries after two weeks of hospitalization. Authorities claimed that he had fallen from a height. But images published on social media clearly show signs of torture on his body. The death of Galvani caused outrage in his hometown Mahabad, where a large crowd gathered for his funeral and turned the ceremony into an anti-regime protest rally.

It evaluates four key areas: Economic Participation and Opportunities, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment. These areas help determine a country’s ranking in terms of gender justice.
Monireh Siadat, 32, and Farzieh Shokrollahi Sent to the Gallows in Isfahan
Another two women were hanged in the Central Prison of Isfahan, Dastgerd Prison, on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Monireh Siadat, 32, and Farzieh Shokrollahi were convicted to death for deliberate murder. Monireh Siadat was a dressmaker. She had been imprisoned three years ago for killing her husband. Monireh Siadat was a victim of forced marriage in Iran. Farzieh Shokrollahi was arrested and detained around five years ago on charges of deliberate murder. The news of the executions of Monireh Siadat and Farzieh Shokrollahi has not been announced yet at the time of publishing this report.
