Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 136

Iran’s nationwide uprising marked its 136th day today, as cities in different parts of Iran were reporting anti-regime protests by people from different parts of the Iranian strata. This includes nightly rallies reported in the capital, protests over economic grievances, and the regime’s failure to provide for the people’s basic needs due to rampant corruption and incompetence among state officials.

In Tehran, a brave young man wrote graffiti on a wall, reading, “Khamenei, you murderer! We will bury you!” Last night, locals in the capital’s Ekbatan district continued the nightly chants with  “Death to Khamenei! Damned be Khomeini!”, “Death to the dictator!”.

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked the city of Khoy in West Azerbaijan Province of northwest Iran on Saturday night, leaving many locals in the freezing cold winter without any aid from the local authorities. State media are reporting three dead while reports from other sources indicate at least seven people have died with 973 others injured. Further reports indicate 70 villages have witnessed 80 percent damage.

Regime officials were quick to dispatch anti-security units to the area to prevent possible anti-regime protests by the locals who are in desperate need of assistance. On Sunday authorities even used water cannons of anti-riot trucks to disperse a crowd of earthquake victims.

In Ardabil, northwest Iran, people had to wait hours to buy bread.

On Sunday morning, people who five years ago paid down payments with the Meftah Rahnavard Company to purchase vehicles held a protest rally in Tehran as they have yet to receive any vehicles.

In Tehran, family members of death row inmates rallied on Sunday outside the regime’s judiciary building protesting the death sentences and demanding answers from regime officials. This is the fifth such rally held recently as family members of various inmates have traveled from across the country to hold these gatherings.

5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Shocks Northwest Iran

According to state news agencies, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake shook the city of Khoy in the north of West Azerbaijan province at around 21:44 local time. The earthquake was at a depth of 7 kilometers and its trembles were felt in the neighboring Urmia city.

The quake was followed by several aftershocks and so far, official sources have spoken of 3 deaths and hundreds of others injured. As a result of the earthquake, many buildings and people’s cars were damaged.

An Arab-Islamic conference was held in Brussels on Friday, January 27, 2023, in solidarity with the Iranian people’s resistance and uprising, the democratic alternative, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan. The conference featured prominent personalities from Jordan, Syria, Tunisia, Algeria, Yemen, Iraq, Sudan, and Mauritania.

Several leaders from the coalition of the Syrian opposition revolutionary forces, including Mr. Nazir Hakim, Mr. Bashar Alhakim (deputy chair of the National Coalition), Mr. Haytham Maleh, Mr. Anwar Malek, former rapporteur of the Arab League, and Mr. Ahmad Kamel attended the conference.

Protests Continue in Iran as People Remain Steadfast in Their Uprising

Iran’s nationwide uprising is marking its 135th day on Saturday following a day of protests by people in many cities across the country. Locals in various cities of Sistan & Baluchestan Province took to the streets yet again on Friday in their continued efforts against the mullahs’ regime. Their protests were paralleled by those seen in different cities across the country and night rallies in the numerous districts of the country’s capital Tehran.

Protests in Iran have to this day expanded to at least 282 cities. Over 750 people have been killed and more than 30,000 are arrested by the regime’s forces, according to sources of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The names of 637 killed protesters have been published by the PMOI/MEK.

Instead of hospital, Zohreh Sarv is taken to Qarchak prison

Political prisoner Zohreh Sarv was taken from Evin prison on January 24, 2023, to Qarchak Prison instead of Taleghani Hospital.

According to social media reports, Zohreh Sarv was infected with the Coronavirus in Evin prison. The prison clinic mistakenly diagnosed her illness as a cold, and she was deprived of treatment for a long time.

After a lengthy denial of treatment, Zohreh Sarv was transferred to Tehran’s Shohada Hospital in Tajrish. After conducting tests, it was determined that the infection caused by the Coronavirus remained in her body due to lack of timely treatment.
