UK Sanctions Iranian Prosecutor General Following Execution of Alireza Akbari
The UK has sanctioned with immediate effect Iran’s Prosecutor General, following the execution of British-Iranian dual national Alireza Akbari.
Alireza Akbari was executed by the Iranian regime earlier today – a politically motivated act which underlines this regime’s complete disregard for human life. Iran’s use of the death penalty accelerated in 2022, with a growing number of individuals put to death often after deeply flawed legal processes
Iran’s Prosecutor General, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, is one of the most powerful figures in Iran’s judiciary and responsible for the trial process and the use of the death penalty.
Canadian Firm Unearths New Details on How Its Engine Ended Up Powering Iranian Drone in Ukraine
A Canadian firm says it has dug up new intelligence on how one of its engines ended up powering an Iranian drone used by Russia against Ukraine — and now government authorities are also investigating.
With a partner in Ukraine, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) says it traced at least a portion of the journey the motor took from its factory in Austria. They determined that the part was not sold to Iran or Russia by any of BRP’s authorized distributors, suggesting a more shadowy supply chain.
The Quebec-based company says it has passed on the results of its probe to the relevant authorities, who are now looking into the matter.

EU Mulls Adding Iran’s Revolutionary Guards to List of Terrorist Groups
The European Union (EU) is moving closer to a decision. The 27 member states are considering putting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard on their list of terrorist groups at a time when the Iranian regime is increasing the number of death sentences and executions to suppress the current uprising. While a similar proposal exists in the United Kingdom, the discussion in Brussels marks the desire of European states to increase their pressure on Tehran four months after the start of the bloody repression of the movement sparked by the death of the young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while in custody. Four men were hung in Iran in December 2022 and early January in connection with the protests. Another 50 or so risk the same fate.
