Iran: Widespread protests by pensioners in several cities

On Sunday, pensioners and welfare recipients held protest rallies in several cities to reiterate their demands from the regime. In the past years, the pensioners have been regularly protesting low wages and the government’s refusal to adjust their pensions based on the devaluation of the rial and the rising inflation rate.

Iranian Christian convert starts hunger strike protesting continued rights violation

Iranian Christian convert Ebrahim Firoozi has gone on hunger strike since Feb. 13, demanding a ‘complete acquittal’ of what he calls the ‘false allegations’ made by the Ministry of Intelligence against him.

He had previously announced that he would go on a hunger strike to protest continued confiscation of his mobile phone and laptop by the Ministry of Intelligence.

The 34-year-old Christian convert, who has already spent 15 months in exile was arrested and taken to Chabahar Prison on February 8, after being summoned to answer new charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic in favour of hostile groups”.

Iran appeals court sentenced Kurdish civil society activist to 5 years

An appeals court has sentenced Kurdish civil society activist Zahra Mohammadi, to five years behind bars.

The appeals court was held in October 2020 presided over by Mostafa Tayari, and the verdict has been officially notified to her in recent days.

Zahra Mohmmmadi is the director of the Nojin Cultural Association, whose activities include teaching the Kurdish language and literature and other civil society activities. She has been teaching Kurdish voluntarily in the villages of Sanandaj for 10 years.

Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 480 Cities Exceeds 215,200

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Saturday, February 13, 2021, that the Coronavirus death toll in 480 cities had exceeded 215,200. The number of victims in Tehran is 51,601, Isfahan 13,785, Khuzestan 10,785, Qom 8,220, West Azerbaijan 7,963, Gilan 7,681, Fars 6,472, Alborz 5,453, Hamedan 5,098, Kerman 4,779, Kermanshah 4,414, Yazd 3,957, Semnan 3,245, Ardabil 2,672, and Hormozgan 2,315.

The National: MEPs call for Iran prisoner to be freed

Two dozen MEPs have written to the EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell urging him to demand the immediate release of a political prisoner held in Iran for more than 20 years.

Saeid Sangar, 47, was arrested in 2000 and jailed after being convicted of waging war against God.


Modern Diplomacy: Europe Must Confront Iranian Regime’s Terrorism

After a two-and-a-half-year investigation, on 4thFebruary 2021, a Belgian court sentenced four culprits for attempting to bomb a large gathering of tens of thousands, including politicians and dignitaries, at a global summit organized by the Iranian opposition – the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) – in Villipinte, France in June 2018.

The perpetrators who attempted to attack the global summit included Assadollah Assadi, a senior accredited Iranian diplomat, who received the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison on attempted murder and terrorism charges – and his three accomplices who were imprisoned for 15,17, and 18 years, respectively. This was the first time that an Iranian diplomat was convicted in Europe.
