Iranian President Must Be Arrested in Geneva This Week

This week, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees is sponsoring the 2023 Global Refugee Forum in Geneva. The event will see participation from various heads of state, as is to be expected of a forum that explores opportunities for governments throughout the world to help alleviate a global refugee crisis. One should not expect, however, that any of the participating officials would themselves be contributors to the crisis. Yet this description certainly fits Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, whose prospective attendance was revealed just days in advance.

Because of this, the forum is now expected to be the site of large-scale protests on Wednesday, as Iranian expatriates and supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran gather to draw attention to Raisi’s decades-long role in politically-motivated executions and overall repression of dissent — phenomena which have forced millions of people to flee the Islamic Republic over the past four decades.

Resistance Units Respond To Iranian Regime’s Threats To Prosecute PMOI Members

In fear of the growing popularity and activity of the Iranian Resistance, Iran’s regime has been ratcheting up its repressive measures against dissidents, especially people who are associated with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Among these measures is the upcoming court case against more than 100 members of the PMOI and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The regime had publicized this court for several months and will start the hearings this week.

Having failed to destroy Iran’s Resistance movement and prevent the new generation from joining the PMOI’s cause, they are setting up another court case in hopes of causing fear in the public.

Iranian Political Prisoner’s Children Receive the Nobel Peace Prize on Her Behalf

Narges Mohammadi’s teenage children received this year’s Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway, on behalf of their imprisoned mother, on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

The Nobel Committee awarded its 2023 Peace Prize to Narges Mohammadi, 51, in October.

The NCRI Women’s Committee welcomes the Nobel Committee’s attention to the struggle of Iranian women for freedom and equality against the religious and misogynistic dictatorship ruling Iran and its awarding of the Peace Prize to political prisoner Narges Mohammadi.

In its statement on October 6, the NCRI Women’s Committee said: This action is against the religious fascism ruling Iran, which has subjugated all women in the past four decades and deprived them of their fundamental rights. The regime has arrested, tortured, and executed tens of thousands of Iranian women.

Understanding the Goals of the Iranian Regime’s Global Aggression

Today, the Middle East, in general, and Palestine and Gaza, in particular, are engulfed in the flames of war. This war is fueled by the delicate and fragile bones of children, the tears and sighs of mothers who have lost their children, and the destruction of buildings, infrastructures, and structures that were erected with human struggle and money.

Hardly a day goes by without the news being filled with the tragedies of this war and painful scenes of civilian burials. The buildings demolished in the bombings represent only one grim aspect of this war. Another heart-wrenching scene is witnessing hungry and frightened children reaching out to UN workers for a bit of food, adding another layer to the moral weight of this conflict.

Protests Pending as Global Refugee Forum Is Marred by Presence of Iranian President

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) released a statement on Saturday condemning the imminent visit to Geneva by Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and announcing plans for a mass demonstration outside the 2023 Global Refugee Forum. The statement referred to Raisi’s participation in that forum as “a stain in the history of the UN” and “an insult to human rights, the sacred right to asylum, and all the values for which contemporary humanity has sacrificed tens of millions of lives.”

European lawmakers and foreign policy experts are expected to take part in that demonstration alongside Iranian expatriates, many of whom have lost loved ones or otherwise been directly impacted by Raisi’s role in crackdowns on dissent dating back to the early days of the Islamic Republic.
