Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 88

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

Monday, December 12, 2022 – 8 PM GMT+1

The mullahs ruling Iran hanged a second protester linked to the ongoing nationwide uprising on Monday morning in the city of Mashhad. Majidreza Rahnavard was arrested during the recent protests and quickly sentenced to death on the mullah-fabricated charges of “Moharebeh”, or “waging war against God.”

State media reported that Rahnavard confessed to the charges, although regime authorities have a long history of forcing prisoners to film coerced confessions. Rahnavard was not provided access to a lawyer, was tortured while in captivity, and appeared in court with injuries, including a broken arm.

Iranian opposition coalition NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi condemned the horrific execution of Majidreza Rahnavard and called on the international community to take “effective and concrete measures against the religious fascism ruling Iran to stop executions, torture, and killings in Iran.”

On Monday, students in Tehran held protest rallies at Allameh Tabataba’i University and National University. In Shiraz, students paid tribute to Majidreza Rahnavard by holding a protest rally and chanting, “Majidreza you’re asleep, but we’re all awake now!” “This is the final message; the whole regime is the target.”

In Mashhad, people installed posters in Majid Reza’s hometown to honor his memory. Locals gathered at his grave, where authorities had secretly buried him the previous night, and chanted, “Majidreza is a martyr for the nation.” They also marched to his home and chanted “People rise up.”

People in the cities of Mashhad and Tehran took to the streets on Monday night to protest the execution of Majidreza Rahnavard. They chanted anti-regime slogans, including, “You took Majidreza Rahnavard away and brought back his corpse!” They wowed more protests and uprisings in response to the regime’s atrocities.

In other developments, protesters in the capital’s Narmak district staged a protest while chanting: “Basij & IRGC, you are our ISIS!” In Tehran’s Haft Howz district, the protesters chanted, “This is the final message, if you execute, there will be a revolt.”

In Amol, northern Iran, defiant youth set ablaze a statue of the eliminated IRGC Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani.

Protester Hanged in Public in Northeastern Iran

This morning, December 12, the Judiciary-run Mizan news agency announced that a 23-year young protester, Majidreza Rahnavard has been hanged “in public” in Mashhad. Following the public execution, Gholam-Ali Sadeghi, the head of justice in Khorasan Razavi province, expressed gratitude to the police and security officers for “establishing order and security as well as dealing with rioters and lawbreakers”.

The execution of Majidreza Rahnavard was carried out only 23 days after his arrest on November 19.

The so-called “Revolutionary Court” of Mashhad sentenced this protester to death on November 29, five days after the indictment was issued.

The regime’s Judiciary had accused Majidreza Rahnavard of attacking and killing two Basij agents, whose names were “Hossein Zeinalzadeh and Daniyal Rezazadeh” in Mashhad’s Haramali street. The regime has been widely using Basij forces to crack down on protesters, killing more than 700 people as of today.

A local human rights organization had previously reported that Majidreza Rahnavard was deprived of a chosen lawyer and he was not given a chance to defend himself in court. Following the state murder of Mohsen Shekari, Majidreza Rahnavard is the second victim who has been used by the regime to intimidate the public and silence the popular uprising that is calling for regime change.

The British Committee for Iran Freedom Strongly Condemned the Brutal Execution of Detained Young Prisoner by the Iranian Regime

Regarding the brutal execution of young protester, Mohsen Shekari by the Iranian regime, The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) issued a press release. BCFIF called on the UK government to lead the response in pressurizing the Iranian regime to stop the executions and to release all detained protesters immediately. The full text of the press release of the BCFIF is as follows:

We were shocked to hear the news of the heinous execution of Mohsen Shekari, one of the detained Iranian protesters, this morning. It shows that the mullahs’ execution machine has begun its lethal work, and another crime against humanity is in the making.

In the summer of 1988, Ebrahim Raisi, now mullahs’ President, was one of the key members of a Death Commission that ordered the execution of 30,000 political prisoners (mainly members and supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI/MEK) who had refused to denounce their organisation).
