Iran’s Seventh COVID Wave Could Triple the Death Toll

There is a possibility that the seventh coronavirus wave in this country can lead to a tripling of the daily death toll, says a leading expert in Iran.

“The deaths can reach triple digits yet forecasting the exact timing is difficult. It is possible for the death to toll to triple, and we need to take into consideration the fact that currently, the number of deaths we are reporting are of those individuals who have been confirmed to have contracted Covid-19.

Two Leaders of the Baha’i Community Re-arrested in Tehran

Fariba Kamalabadi and Mahvash Sabet, two leaders of the Baha’i community in Iran, were arrested for the second time on July 31, 2022. Agents of security services went to their houses in Tehran and took them to an undisclosed location. Relatives of Fariba Kamalabadi and Mahvash Sabet confirmed the news of their arrests.

Agents of the Ministry of Intelligence attacked Baha’i homes in 9 cities, including Tehran, Karaj, Qazvin, Shiraz, Mashhad, Sari, Gonbad, and Gorgan. They arrested dozens of Baha’i citizens, including women.

Iranian Film Director Jafar Panahi Contracts Coronavirus in Prison

Iranian film director Jafar Panahi, who has been in prison since July 11, has contracted the coronavirus and transferred to quarantine at Tehran’s Evin Prison.

With severe fever and chills, Mr. Panahi requested the prison authorities to send him to a hospital outside the prison for treatment, but his request was rejected.

Jafar Panahi’s wife, Tahereh Saeedi is currently trying to arrange for him to be transferred out of prison for treatment despite the official holiday in the country.
