Five Thousand Abandoned Babies in Iran in Just Ten Days

Mohammad Reza Mahboobfar, a state-affiliated social researcher, said that in the last 10 days alone, about 5,000 babies have been abandoned across the country.

According to the state-run Eqtesad 24, he cited statistics provided by medical centers and social workers, saying that between 2,000 and 2,500 fetuses and newly born infants are left on the streets on a daily basis.

Mahboubfar, a member of the Scientific Association for Health Education and Health Promotion, called the increase in abortions and the abandonment of infants on the streets a consequence of the state’s “Support for the Family and Rejuvenating” campaign, adding that “contraceptives have become unavailable to 40 million people.”

Criticizing the state’s new initiative, Mohammad Reza Mahboobfar stated that the family and population rejuvenating plan has only increased abortion rates and continued: “The plan of rejuvenating the population has not facilitated youth marriage nor has it improved the quality of life for people. Because the officials must create welfare for the people in order to facilitate marriage and childbearing.”

New Efforts to Conceal Crimes Against Humanity in Khavaran

New images posted on social media indicate a new effort by the Iranian regime to wall off the Khavaran cemetery in eastern Tehran.

Khavaran is the location where mass graves have been ditched for thousands of political prisoners who were executed during the massacre of August and September 1988.

New images taken from Khavaran in eastern Tehran show new CCTV cameras and concrete walls installed around the cemetery.

Following the trial of Hamid Noury, a former prison guard and one of the perpetrators of the 1988 massacre in Sweden, the victims’ family members were expressing concerns about the regime’s reaction and systemic efforts to wipe out any evidence of the mass killings.
