State-run Newspaper Lays Open Systemic Mishandling of the Country’s Educational Procedures

iran-sharq-exams

The state-run Sharq daily wrote on July 1: “Last week, a report from the Etemad newspaper exposed why the nationwide exams were delayed last year. It made clear that if the exams were held earlier, many participants might have had a lesser appetite to take part. Because it showed that the corruption in the examination system reaches bad places, even beyond the issue of those who make money by selling the answers.”

“At the same time, the media close to the government tried to point fingers at the students who cheated in the exam. Holding nationwide exams in other parts of the world requires coordination between different institutions. While young people leave the country one after the other and choose other countries to continue their education, they are also attracted by how they are conducting their exams.”

“The government in Iran, however, has always been one of the silent opponents of eliminating nationwide exams. Because if this stressful process is removed, it will lose many crucial tools for future generations. The exams are an excuse for boys to delay military service, and for girls, it is the only way to enter the youth world independently, and the government does not want to give up its role in this bottleneck. What was the result? The internet was cut off on the day of the exams!”
