Nightly Uprising in Iran’s Kurdistan Region Following State Murder of Political Prisoner

Peyman Gelwani, a Kurdish political prisoner, tragically lost his life as a result of torture inflicted by the security forces of the clerical regime in Urmia. Mr. Gelwani had been arrested by the regime’s intelligence and security agents in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, on June 25. He was subsequently transferred to the detention center of the Urmia Intelligence Department, where he spent 14 days before dying under severe torture and mishandling.

Reports indicate that the people of Mr. Gelwani’s hometown, Mahabad, have reacted to this appalling incident by taking to the streets and engaging in clashes with the security forces.

Beijing Will Not Deal with Tehran Because of FATF, Official Says

While the Ebrahim Raisi’s government is trying to portray the clerical regime’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a significant achievement, the state-run newspaper Hammihan reported on Monday, July 10, quoting Mohammad Lahouti, a member of the regime’s Chamber of Commerce in Tehran and the head of the regime’s Export Confederation as saying: “Membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization may have good advantages for us and even come with some discounts, but the member countries of the organization have reduced their trade with Iran because Iran is not a member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).”

“For this reason, our imports from the United Arab Emirates have increased in recent years,” he added. “The reason for this is that China is not willing to directly import many goods from China to Iran. Instead, they are exported from China to the UAE and from the UAE to Iran. This has happened due to Iran’s designation on FATF’s blacklist.”

On June 30, the first day of the four-day Free Iran 2023 World Summit, a panel of politicians and distinguished personalities discussed the Iranian regime’s continuous disinformation campaign against the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The regime has gone to great lengths to demonize the MEK, and anyone who has had interactions with the Iranian opposition has had experience with the regime’s extensive disinformation campaign. Struan Stevenson, former MEP from Scotland, who has recently written a book on the modern history of Iran, shed light on the regime’s incessant efforts against the MEK.

After Her Son’s Loss, Maliheh Hassan Nejad Dies in Hospital

Maliheh Hassan Nejad, who had lost her son during the Iran uprising in 2022, died in a hospital in Tehran on Sunday, July 9, 2023. She had suffered two strokes and was in a coma for seven months. Mohammad Hosseini was killed on October 12, 2022, during Iran protests in Kouhdasht, in Saqqez. He was protesting the security forces’ destruction of people’s cars when anti-riot vehicles ran over him twice. He died instantly. Maliheh Hassan Nejad, the mother of Mohammad Hosseini, suffered a brain stroke after her son’s death and fell into a coma for nearly seven months at a hospital in Tehran.

Iraqi Militiamen Accepted at University of Tehran

According to Iranian state media president of the University of Tehran welcomed the “request for continued education” from members of the para-military group Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in this university on Monday, July 10.

According to the University of Tehran’s website, Mohammad Ghaemi, in a meeting with a group of Iraqi students and applicants from this country at the University of Tehran, as well as Hussein Mousavi Bakhti, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training of the MPF, considered the “academic interaction with Iraqi brothers, especially the fighters of the MPF,” as an extension of the interaction pattern established by Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of the IRGC Quds Force and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of the Hashd al-Shaabi.

Soleimani and al-Muhandis were killed on the night of January 3, 2020, during a U.S. drone missile attack on their convoy as it was leaving Baghdad International Airport.

The president of the University of Tehran described the purpose of accepting the continued education of PMF troops at this university as “enhancing the level of knowledge and specialized capabilities of Muslim fighters.”

Iranian regime Kills Kurdish Political Prisoner Musa Ismaili Under Torture

According to local human rights sources, agents of the Iranian regime tortured and killed Kurdish political prisoner Musa Ismaili in Urmia prison. Mr. Ismaili, a resident of Piranshahr, was arrested on Sunday, May 7, by agents of the Intelligence Ministry (MOIS).

The Urmia branch of the MOIS contacted Musa Ismaili’s family on Saturday, July 8, delivering the distressing news that they should collect their son’s body. Upon their arrival, they were informed of his tragic demise. To compound the family’s anguish, authorities not only withheld the release of the body but also issued a grave threat, forbidding any funeral rites or memorial service to be conducted in the mosque.

Iran’s Economic Crisis: Poverty and Misery Plague the Nation

There is currently a buzz surrounding the latest trip of Iranian regime’s President Ebrahim Raisi to South America, as if someone has rediscovered the continent. The Iranian regime’s media has been exaggerating the economic and political achievements of the visit. Upon returning to Iran, Raisi claimed that the people of South America were surprised and delighted by his presence. Such claims are absurd, leading some of the regime’s media outlets to mockingly state that Raisi’s trip to Venezuela was portrayed as if he were the first Iranian president to discover South America. However, the reality in Iran tells a different story. Millions of Iranians are suffering under the weight of poverty and hardship. Basic necessities like bread and yogurt have become difficult to find. While government statisticians report economic growth, domestic media outlets reveal the truth.

Iran Regime’s Cyber Offensive a Tool for Negotiation in Nuclear Talks

Cybersecurity researchers at Proofpoint have detected a recent espionage campaign aimed at Western think tank members involving using backdoors. The campaign has been attributed to the Iran regime’s state-sponsored actors who displayed their capability to target both Apple and Windows-powered devices, seamlessly adapting to the respective operating systems. In a report published on the Proofpoint blog, researchers uncovered the activities of a group known as TA453, also known as Charming Kitten, Mint Sandstorm, or APT42. This group targeted nuclear security experts in the United States through phishing emails. The emails impersonated renowned professors, intellectuals, and researchers involved in nuclear energy studies, requesting victims’ approval to send a research paper.
