Iran: A year after IRGC downed a Ukrainian Airliner, no one is held accountable
A year has passed since an IRGC surface-to-air missile brought down the Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 on January 8, 2020, minutes after the airplane took off from Tehran. The plane, which was supposed to make a stop at Kyiv, was bound for Canada, and aboard it were 55 Canadian citizens, 30 permanent residents of Canada, and 53 others who were on their way to Canada. Other passengers were from Iran, Ukraine, Sweden, Afghanistan, and the United Kingdom. After being hit by the missile, the plane crashed in a town west of the Iranian capital of Tehran, killing all 176 passengers and crew.

Iran: Coronavirus Fatalities in 478 Cities Exceeds 197,900
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, that the Coronavirus death toll in 478 cities across Iran had exceeded 197,900. The number of victims in Tehran is 48,491, Khorasan Razavi 13,390, Isfahan 12,345, Khuzestan 9,975, Lorestan 7,993, Mazandaran 7,622, East Azerbaijan 7,562, Fars 6,051, Golestan 4,897, Central Province 4,098, Zanjan 2,085, Hormozgan 2,075, Ilam 2,040, and Bushehr 1,994.

Forough Taghipour, her mother arraigned with ‘propaganda against the state’
Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran convened on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, examining the charges against political prisoner Forough Taghipour, 25, and her mother, Nassim Jabbari, 58. They were arraigned with the charge of “propaganda against the state.”
The judge presiding the court threatened to level the charge of “Moharebeh (waging war on God)” against Forough Taghipour, presently detained in Qarchak Prison, and her mother, Nassim Jabbari, who is out on bail for the time being. Their lawyer was present during the trial.

Political prisoner Kamran Rezaii-far arraigned with “waging war on God”
Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran examined the case of political prisoner Kamran Rezaii-far on Monday, December 28, 2020. He was arraigned with the charge of Moharebeh (waging war on God). The judge presiding the case, Amouzad, threatened him with death penalty during the court session.
Political prisoner Kamran Rezaii-far was arrested on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “having contact with the People’s Mojahedin Organization (PMOI/MEK),” but his indictment was subsequently changed from “propaganda against the state” to “sowing corruption on Earth” and “Moharebeh.”

Even before the Covid-19 outbreak, the unsanitary conditions of overcrowded prisons in Iran spread infectious diseases among inmates.
Over the past year, as all signs indicated that the situation was going to be catastrophic, officials of the Iranian Judiciary did not take any measures to prevent the spread of the virus in prisons. So, the situation got out of control as the Coronavirus plagued all Iranian prisons.

Iranians Continue Protests; at Least Seven Rallies and Strikes on January 5
While the Iranian regime does not care about the people’s dilemmas and living conditions, the people see no solution but resorting to protests to achieve their inherent rights.
In this respect, there has been no day without spontaneous protests, rallies, and strikes against the regime and its apparatuses’ functions and profiteering policies. On January 5, Iranian workers, nurses, farmers, medical staff, merchants, creditors, pensioners, and miners held rallies and strikes to obtain their basic rights.
