Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll Exceeds 366,400

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Monday, August 16, 2021, that the Coronavirus death toll in 547 cities is more than 366,400. The number of victims in Tehran has reached 86,196, Isfahan 24,530, Khorasan Razavi 23,635, Khuzestan 22,906, Mazandaran 14,230, Lorestan 13,300, West Azerbaijan 13,068, Fars 12,832, Gilan 12,135, Sistan and Baluchestan 10,835, Alborz 10,748, Qom 10,560, Kerman 9,288, Golestan 8,735, Central Province 7,218, Kermanshah 6,633, Yazd 6,398, Hormozgan 6,330, Kurdistan 5,907, North Khorasan 4,944, Ardabil 4,460, Ilam 3,688, and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari 2,925.

The Catastrophic Spread of COVID-19 in Iran

In an unannounced televised speech, Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei acknowledged that the Covid-19 outbreak has become a “savage disease” that “has become the first and foremost issue before the state today” and is an “urgent matter.” Iran is facing a disastrous and tragic resurgence of coronavirus infection, with the number of covid cases and deaths growing at an unprecedented rate.

Iran’s Regime Plans To Divide Khuzestan Province After Major Protests

The regime claims that the new divisions will reduce bureaucracy and centralization and will help address the people’s needs. But experts are suggesting that not only the province division will not solve these problems but will add new management overhead. The new divisions will provide the regime with more government posts to give to its affiliates and cronies and further channel public wealth into the pockets of the ruling elite. Currently, all the so-called economic support being provided to Khuzestan is being usurped by regime-appointed authorities and the corrupt bureaucracy. Meanwhile, the regime’s destructive plans such as preventing investment in the province, changing the ethnic fabric of the province, and building dams across the province have contributed to the deterioration of the environmental and economic conditions.

Hospital Beds Become Empty Only When a COVID Patient Dies

“We are on the brink of a catastrophe and the country has literally been left to be. There are no empty hospital beds. Beds become empty only after a patient dies,” Iran’s semiofficial ISNA news agency quoted physician Aram Eshaqi as saying on August 3. This is only the tip of the iceberg in Iran, where the coronavirus has swept the country and for five consecutive days, the official death toll surpassed 500 cases. This is while the opposition Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI) has declared the actual number of Covid-19 fatalities is more than 1,700 per day.

Iran’s Regime and Its Illegitimate President

8 Political Activists Are Sentenced to Prison in Iran

Eight political activists in Iran’s Gilan province were sentenced to prison at the urging of the Ministry of Intelligence, despite their innocence in a previous court. Reports from Gilan indicate that on 28 June 2021, the Gilan Court of Appeal sentenced these political activists to prison. The names of these political activists are Ahmad Behnami, Ebrahim Hazuri, Mahin Akbari, Azra Taheri, Narges Shirbacheh, Simrokh Bozorg Ziaberi, Zahraheghgoo, Aqeel Rahnama Behembari.
