Iran: Khamenei paranoid at low election turnout

Khamenei: “There may be some who for some reason do not want to support the system, but they should support their country. Everyone must participate”

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s Supreme leader Ali Khamenei has revealed his mounting fear of a mass boycott of the presidential election.

Speaking on the eve of the ballot he exposed his own paranoia of a low turnout and urged everyone to cast their vote on Friday.

Khamenei said: “My main advice is enthusiastic participation in the polls. There may be some who for some reason do not want to support the system, but they should support their country. Everyone must participate.”

He went on to express his anger at the stage-managed pre-election debates on state television by candidates who had previously been vetted for their loyalty to him.

He said: “I have things to say about the issues raised by these men, and I will say them later.”

Khamenei also revealed his fear of a repeat of mass election protests of 2009, which severely undermined both his power and the legitimacy of the entire regime. He added: “We suffered from those who have broken the law.”

Khamenei’s close ally Mohammad Taghi Mesbah-Yazdi also showed the regime’s desperation for a new president that is loyal to the Supreme Leader.

He said: “Putting the wrong ballot in the ballot box comes at the expense of Islam and the Islamic order and is a serious sin, as the sin of a wise person is worse than that of an ignorant one, and their shall be punishment 70 times greater.”

His comments come after a series of extreme remarks by the regime’s elite of the importance of casting a vote, including ‘a vote is as important as morning prayers’ and ‘not voting is a one-way ticket to hell’.
